What are you feeling?

REBT suggests it is not the event, but the belief or view you hold about the event, which is at the heart of emotional states and behavioural tendencies. It also recognises that some negative emotions are not necessarily unhealthy ones – there are some understandable and rational emotional reactions to many of life’s challenges. However, if your responses are based on an irrational belief about something that has happened in the past, something that is happening now or something that could happen in the future, it’s likely that your reaction has been unhelpful and distressing.
